Evaluation Edition

You can download an evaluation copy of Kabel .NET to better understand how you can implement Kabel .NET into your ASP.NET applications. The interaction with your custom authentication code is exactly the same as with the real version of Kabel .NET so you can test and see how the specific mechanism and implementation options can work for you.

Standard Edition

The Standard Edition includes the full versions of the Kabel .NET Binaries as well as the Kabel .NET SDK with documentation, implementation walkthroughs and sample applications. Additionally, each purchase of the Standard Edition will include 1 Devlopment License; see Licensing Details for more information on license and deployment types. When you register your copy of the Kabel .NET Standard Edition, you will receive eMail Support, free updates for one year, and optionally the Kabel .NET Community newsletter.

License Files

The Kabel .NET Binaries (the actual DLLs) require that a valid license file be installed on the current machine. These files are obtained through special License Keys, which are seperate from the Binaries themselves.

Example: The Kabel .NET Standard Edition contains the Binaries and 1 Developer License Key, which will activate the component for one Developer machine; after purchasing the Standard Edition, you can install the Binaries on as many machines as desired, but each will need a seperate license.

License Types

Kabel .NET thus offers three licensing variations, which have affect the deployment scope:

• Development License (one such License is included in the Kabel .NET Standard Edition)
  The Development License is intended for use on a single Developer machine. The Kabel .NET module runs within the scope of all local web applications; however, they need to be accessed via http://localhost/...

• Production License
  The Kabel .NET Binaries run unrestrictedly for all web applications on one machine (Server). This license is intended for the actual Production Web Servers that will run your Kabel .NET-enabled Web applications.

• Hosting License - The above Production license is not permitted for Hosting (multi-site, ie. servers that host applications for more than one company) environments. Hosting providers should contact kabelnet.licensing@impulsio.com for the details about the Kabel .NET Hosting Program.

Specifics

It is important to understand that Kabel .NET licenses are linked to a Server's network adapter; when there is more than one network adapter present, the User is prompted to select the primary adapter for which the license should be valid. Thus, licenses are valid across system updates and re-installations. Also, the license file only contains the SHA1 hash of the network adapter's identifier, so no machine-specific information is ever transmitted or stored with the central Kabel .NET licensing service.

Once issued to a specific server (more specifically: to its network adapter), licenses cannot be transferred, re-issued or refunded.

Obtaining License Keys

License Keys are sent via eMail after the completed purchase. Machine License Files can then be requested and downloaded (the process is fully automated) using the Kabel .NET Licensing Utility, included in the standard Binaries.
