Twelve-year-old
Taliesin Jones lives with his father and brother on a remote Welsh farm.
Not long ago, their mother left the family and is now living with her
hairdresser - 'to bring a little color into her life', as she says. His
father's reaction is apathetic, whilst his brother feels bitter. Tal is
a lonely child; the fact that he has no school friends doesn't make matters
any better. Roughneck Hooper enjoys pushing him around and cruel Julie
makes his life a misery.
In his despair, Tal turns to God. But who exactly is God and where is
he to be found? Tal discovers that he has so many questions for which
he has no answers. The only person who appears to show any consideration
for his plight is Tal's piano teacher, Billy Evans, who is not only a
musician, but something of a healer. When Tal discovers that Billy has
managed to make people's pain disappear simply by laying his hands on
them, he decides to make a suggestion to the old man. Tal promises to
work hard at piano lessons if Billy will initiate him in the art of healing.
From this point on, Tal becomes acquainted with all of manner of secrets
and astonishing things but, above all, he learns about the power of faith.
His new interest makes him even more of an outsider, nevertheless, he
is certain that if he remains loyal to his belief he will surely master
all the tests that life has in store for him.
