His
real name is Tobias but hardly anyone calls this eight-year-old
by anything except his strange nickname – Zaziki. And why do
they call him Zaziki? For the simple reason that he’s always
dreaming of Greece. Zaziki lives with his mother, Tina. He has
never seen his father, a Greek fisherman who doesn’t even know
that he has a son in Sweden. Zaziki would give anything to visit
his father and dive with him to catch squid. In the evenings
he even practices holding his breath for as long as he can.Tina
has problems of her own. She plays guitar in a band and would
love to be a famous musician. Zaziki’s classmates are some of
her greatest fans on account of her ‘performance’ in the classroom
one day when she gave the headteacher a piece of her mind after
Zaziki had taken a beating at the hands of an older boy named
Mårten. One day Zaziki meets a young policeman by the name of
Göran who has recently been transferred to Stockholm. He is
looking for an apartment and, since there’s a spare room at
Tina and Zaziki’s place, he moves in as a subtenant. Zaziki
and Göran soon become friends. Göran teaches Zaziki how to dance;
he’s also an excellent cook and supports the young boy’s plan
to visit his father in Greece. What’s more, he falls in love
with Tina – but her mind is only on her music. At first it’s
Tina’s dream which is fulfilled when her band is offered a record
contract. Shortly afterwards, Zaziki’s dearest wish comes true
and he and his mother fly to Greece. However, just about the
last thing his mother wants is to meet Zaziki’s father again
