15-year-old Tadaie has a boyfriend! His name is Aidin, and he is the same age as Tadaie. Every day, these two meet after school in a park, making plans for the future and thinking seriously about their lives together. But then, one day, they are given away by passers-by who have noticed the young couple together and have alerted the police. Their friendship is put to the test when Tadaie’s parents hear about their relationship and forbid their daughter from going anywhere near Aidin. Tadaie is furious and unhappy. She’s not going to put up with this! The next morning, Tadaie doesn’t go to school as usual but wanders about the city. She tries to ring Aidin, but doesn’t manage to reach him. Tadaie drifts about Tehran aimlessly, encountering parts of town she never knew before. Running away from home turns out to be a real journey of discovery. Finally, in a poor district on the edge of the city, she comes across Nasim, the son of a street hawker, and his mother, Mapareh. They are the first people to show some sympathy for Tadaie’s situation. They do their best to find Tadaie a place to spend the night, but, ultimately, the girl with the white sneakers just doesn’t belong in their world. A stranger to these parts, she withdraws into her shell, feeling insecure. It’s not long before Tadaie sets off again on her own. In the meantime, Mapareh has asked a friend of hers who drives a lorry to make contact with Aidin. Tadaie is able to meet Aidin once more in ‘their’ park. But to Tadaie’s great disappointment, Aidin displays a complete lack of understanding for her current situation . . .
